Twin Cities Wine Education presents an incredible night of Burgundy education
Of all the wine regions of the world, Burgundy holds the charm and attention of wine experts the most. Why? Quite simple, really. Burgundy produces many of the best, most legendary, and most complex wines of the world. Within the region of Burgundy, the northern half of the Cote d’Or, known as the Côtes de Nuits, is renowned for making possibly the best Pinot Noirs in the world.
It’s the region where terroir reigns. Where one tiny parcel of land can contain more geological pockets than you can imagine. It’s the region where the village level wines, the Premier Crus, and the Grand Crus have been delineated for thousands of years.
It’s also one of the most difficult regions to understand, but that’s where the Burgundy Masterclass comes in.
Join us to discuss a historical overview of the region (focusing on the Cote de Nuits) going back to Roman times. From there we will cover the impact of World War II on the area, including a brief discussion on the “Champagne Campaign” and how the region was saved from destruction.
A majority of the class will be to help decipher and understand the complexities of the region’s geography and how it relates to the labeling system. We will cover in detail each village of the Cote de Nuits. Examples from top regions and producers will be tasted, including Premier Cru wines. This will be an exemplary selection of incredible wines, many of which are rarely available to taste.
Particular discussion will focus on the premier regions of Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, and Nuits St. George. We will learn what makes these regions different, producers to seek out in particular regions, the best vintages of the areas, and more. Most importantly, we will discuss how to shop for Burgundy to get the most bang for your well-earned buck.
This class will be comprehensive and intensive, and we will taste outstanding wines that will help define for you exactly why Burgundy is one of the most coveted wine regions in the world. Seating is extremely limited!
